Wave

Sharing one of my kinetic pieces - a 60-foot wave rising during a winter visit to the North Shore of Kauai.

I am attracted to the fluidity of the printed cloth as well as to the otherworldly and three-dimensional quality that this type of work possesses. Fabric pieces demonstrate anew my connection to the landscape and the images I produce in that they introduce the elements of movement and change. They explore the perceptual intersection of the visual with a tactile and fluid substratum. When hung from a structure that allows the piece to flow freely (especially when prompted by random motion or controlled wind sources such as a natural breeze from a passerby or movement derived from a strategically-placed electric fan), the pieces take on observable kinetic energy that I find exhilarating.
